Youth Tour & CYCLE

For the first time in 57 years, the National Rural Electric Cooperative’s Youth Tour had to be cancelled due to social gathering restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. Tri-County Electric Cooperative has been sending delegates to the Rural Electric Youth Tour since 2013. This year, Morgan Blessing was selected to represent Tri-County Electric at the Youth Tour. Although Morgan won’t have the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C., she will still get to participate in leadership activities in a different way. Through virtual technology, the delegates will be able to introduce themselves and meet over 100 other participants from across the state, ask their U.S. Representatives about political and legislative issues, and learn about electric cooperatives. In addition, Morgan will have the opportunity to apply and interview to represent Missouri on the NRECA Youth Leadership Council (YLC). YLC members meet with NRECA leaders and Youth Tour alumni who work in Washington D.C. and on Capitol Hill. They will be given the opportunity to build leadership skills, enhance their cooperative knowledge, build friendships and make connections with other student leaders if chosen. Since Tri-County Electric Cooperative will not incur the costs of a traditional Youth Tour trip this year, Morgan will receive a $2,000 post-secondary scholarship to the college or trade school she chooses.
